will always be welcome at cabinland. as a jew i find it infuriating that people like my president pretend to care about jewish folks and claim that if someone is critical of israel, that means they’re critical of jews. that’s a lie, you deceitful d-bag!
as a jew i can sympathize with a jewish state. the desire for one to be formed after the holocaust. the fear and anger i feel when jews are bombed or shot because they’re jewish. however israel got it wrong when it first forcibly removed people from their lands in the name of a jewish state. if we think about the holocaust and what we say is, “never again” then that means not just for jews but for palestinians... for everybody. colonization is wrong. you’re allowed to be critical of the israeli state as a colonizing force and still support jews. while there has been violence “on both sides” it is never proportional. when rockets were launched into israel from lebanon in 1984 and a number of jews died, israel invaded lebanon and 14,000 civilians died. that’s wrong and just one example of many. you’re allowed to be critical of those things and still support jews.
many aspects of the history of israel cause me great shame as a jew. it is the same shame i feel when i think of the forcible removal of indigenous people in my county. i stand with people like albert einstein and howard zinn who were critical of israel, sympathetic to palestine, and were no less jewish for it.
