At 21 years old I was trained at York University to be an elementary teacher. I was the youngest student in the program and later got a contract teaching position at the age of 22. It paid off for me to graduate high school a year early, and plow through my undergraduate studies, because after I got my job it became nearly impossible to even get onto a supply list. I recall my husband (boyfriend at the time) used to tease me about all the hours I spent in my classroom. He wondered what I was doing for so long and often joked that I was re-arranging the crayons or sharpening the pencils. The truth is I love teaching and even more than that I LOVE children. I knew this from a very young age. For me it wasn’t a “job” it was a calling. When I first started, I was at school from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and even snuck in a couple hours on Saturdays when language classes were running to change my setup before students arrived on Monday morning. A question I often got was why do you go to all this effort? The children are so young and will likely forget. My response was always that children are worth it and they will remember. They may not have remembered every lesson, but I was confident that I ignited and inspired their learning. If they didn’t remember me, they remembered the classroom or at least how much I cared for them. Years later this has been proven to me with letters from former students, visits, or even calls by their parents. This video was sent to me last week from my then Kindergarten student @avaaugustin. She is now 10 years old in Grade 5 and made it using photos from her experiences with me at 4 years old. Ava was one of the youngest students in the class. She excelled in those two years. Here is what her mother said when she sent the video: ”The first 5 years of a child's life, beyond a doubt set the tone for the future. You have made such a big impact on her. More pointedly.... How she views the world and how she wants to teach everyone around her something.” ❤️ So future educators, current educators, and or those involved in some way with the education of young children - everything we do counts. It’s remembered and it certainly makes an impact for life!

What is your purpose? “All too often, people attempt to live their lives backwards: they spend their days striving to get the things that will make them happy rather than having the wisdom to realize that happiness is not a place you reach but a state you create.
Happiness and a life of deep fulfillment come when you commit yourself, from the very core of your soul, to spending your highest human talents on a purpose that makes a difference in others’ lives.
When all the clutter is stripped away from your life, its true meaning will become clear: to live for something more than yourself.
Stated simply, the purpose of life
is a life of purpose.” 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛This quote was taken from my new book by @robinsharma and happened to be today’s daily inspiration under “impact and legacy.” (Thanks @amorra22 for accidentally bumping into my @chaptersindigo and recommending this rare and special book! I feel like it was serendipitous encounter or that I was meant to read it!) I have found my passion, purpose and platform to share. Now I just need to carve out more time for creating!!! P.S. This is a closer look at those @ilovehape wooden magnetic letters I was talking about earlier this week. I have a couple sets to play matching games with my kids. I like how they have various colours and the uppercase and lowercase match. We have been making some pretend alphabet soup in stainless steel bowls and then emptying it out onto cookie trays so that the magnets work like they would on the refrigerator or chalkboard.

HAPPY FRIDAY!
I hope that this quote made you stop and think. It really inspired me!

😲 One weekend left to register for our winter classes beginning this Tuesday! Lots of engaging and creative indoor experiences that will warm your hearts even on the coldest of days ! And the best part, it’s an hour of learning where your child is not in front of an iPad or television show!!! Plus it’s kinda great that we take care of all the planning and cleanup !! Going through all of the feels today... 😢 😭 😭 It’s my son’s third birthday on Sunday and my daughter is becoming a toddler. Been staring at old photos all morning, wondering how my heart will handle any more growing and changing. I was sensitive and emotional as a child/woman and now I’m on another level!!! It’s so overwhelming and exhausting and beautiful ! 😢 Shared a photo in my stories of my little guy at ten months when I was pregnant with my baby girl and will also include a poem that another Mama posted about her second child. Anyone else get overcome with emotion before your child’s/children’s next milestone? #momtruth 📸: @clarkylaura

Painting with cookie cutters, sponges, and rollers. But these toddlers are learning something more than creative expression. They are finding out how to share and it doesn’t come easily !!!! P.S. I have a couple openings to our Curious Children for Multi Ages and Stages (Birth to 3 years old) from 10:00-11:00 a.m. beginning next week. DM message me for the details !! 💛

All humans are social beings. How cute is it that this baby boy is already trying to hold her hand? And she’s loving the attention! 💛💙 Our classes promote socialization for children from birth to 12 years of age. The adults who attend also get the chance to talk and connect. Love witnessing all of the beautiful relationships that are formed in the TransformEd Creative Studio and Learning Centre. Best ABC magnets on the market are by a company called @ilovehape. They are painted on wood rather than a sticker that peels off after a couple uses. If one accidentally gets inside the mouth of an infant (which is often the case) - game over !!! So avoid those sticker covered magnets whenever possible... 📸: @clarkylaura #hapetoys

Even with email on our phones, I’m still kinda old school and prefer to respond at my desktop 🖥 . Working through another full inbox from the weekend. Our classes resume next week and my priority has been finalizing the digital photos and portfolio binders from our last season. Thanks for your continued interest in the TransformEd Creative Studio and Learning Space !! 📸: @clarkylaura

Monthly Mama Meet Ups: Reconnect and Learn

The TransformEd Creative Studio and Learning Centre specifically designed a program for Mamas who want to socialize with their relatives/friends, but know how hard it is to carve out the time, let alone clean their home, organize the food, setup activities to host it themselves, etc., etc. Once a month let us do all of the coordinating, planning, setup, and cleanup, while you enjoy the time with your child and relatives/friends. During our class the children can freely explore our studio space, and we also have some structured group time for stories, songs, and or any relevant discussions. Mamas will be given a break to eat and have some mindful moments colouring or crafting.

Salad will be served with some fruit while we get creative and have fun learning together!

Don't miss this unique social opportunity to reconnect with the ones you love and witness how your child grows and changes!

Mixed Ages: Infant - 12 years with Parent/Caregiver (All activities will be differentiated according to the age/group registered)

Classes run for six months on the same day of the week/hour. Each child/parent who registers in this program will know the dates ahead of time. (To clarify it’s once a month for six consecutive months.)

Edible art experience in water. I love the way children (infants and toddlers in particular) arrange the fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers. Each combination is unique and we change the water often. (Baby S @dayna_dee @dan4re)
