I got so lucky with views of the Matterhorn last week- I had my expectations managed beforehand, but for the majority of the time I was over there it was looking crisp & clear with perfect visibility. The only thing I didn't get to see was the Crystal Glacier ride (a glass bottom, Swarovski crystal-encrusted cable car that takes you up 12,536 feet). The clouds came down the day we were meant to do that...but it's always good to have a reason to come back @zermatt.matterhorn #Zermatt #Matterhorn

Probably the best photo I've ever had taken of me, and that's largely down to the fact that one of the world's most incredible mountains- The Matterhorn- is behind me. Also the fact that the very talented @jamespopsys was behind the camera helped @zermatt.matterhorn #Zermatt #Matterhorn

AD When I got back from Austin my friends were asking me how it was over there & I tried to think of a way summarise the city to distinguish it from anywhere else, but in a way Austin is like if you took all the best bits from the best cities and put them in one place. There's a vibrant food scene, a quirky piece of street art on every corner, an endless supply of live music, a number of colourful museums, an even larger number of blue bonnets, an iconic capitol building, a stunning outdoor swimming pool.... and Willie Nelson #unitedstories @visittheusa @visitaustintx #TrueAustin

AD Been meaning to make a Popeye idea work for ages- when I was in Basel last year I tried to turn the BIS building into a giant spinach can but totally failed & another time I tried to make a tree look like spinach being squeezed out of a can but that looked crap. The street signs here in Austin loaned themselves nicely to a Popeye idea though. I was trying to find a fun fact to link him to Austin for this caption and all I could find was the fact that the nearby 'Crystal City' erected a statue of Popeye in 1937 to honour the fact his popularity boosted their spinach industry. (I say nearby City, it's about 200 miles away from Austin but honestly this was the best I could do to try and link the two) #UnitedStories @visittheusa @visitaustintx #TrueAustin #Popeye

Interested in how I did this? I set up my tripod by the pool before the sun went down, locked the camera in position and took a photo of the JW Marriott before the lights in the windows were visible. Then I had a cheeky G&T while waiting for it to get darker (there was a pool bar so I wasn’t not going to use it). When guests started to turn their bedroom lights on, I took another photo but out of the three hundred or so windows, only about sixty were actually turned on so I had to duplicate a lot of the lights in the edit. Finally I took a photo of me holding the paper hands & controller over the pool (it was a quite windy so instead of getting the hands to move via stop-motion, I cheated and added in the movement in post). I merged those images together on various layers in After-Effects so that I could make each window light up and down on cue, then designed the Tetris effect and edited the paper hand movements accordingly #ad @MarriottBonvoy #MarriottBonvoy #MarriottAmericas #UnitedStories

AD I came across this place when I was researching ideas for Austin, but I didn't look up exactly where it was assuming it would be easy to spot a gigantic observation tower in the middle of the City. I was wrong; after not finding it I jumped on my phone (taking full advantage @VodafoneUK's Global Roaming Plus where I can roam in seventy seven destinations worldwide without a daily fee) and realised that it wasn't in the city at all but at the Circuit of The Americas, about eleven miles away. So I got in a cab, turned up at this place and let myself into the racetrack (I'm still sort of unsure if it was actually open to the public) and quickly took some photos before anyone had the chance to kick me out!

When I'm travelling abroad I rely on my phone so much to help me find the obscure, middle of no-where places I like to photograph and having gone through a phase of buying local SIM cards at airports, roaming has proved to be simpler. Plus I like roaming because after a long flight there's that moment where you've landed, you turn on your phone and all the messages & updates you've missed suddenly ping in and distract you just long enough before they open the airplane doors. So while the other passengers are passive-aggressively making their way to the aisle, I'm having a great time laughing at a Tom Hiddleston meme #RedRoaming @vodafoneuk

AD To the north east of Austin, in an eco-conscious development called Mueller, there are fifteen futuristic flowers sprouting behind a retail estate. Their petals are solar panels which produce energy for the city's power grid, and a lot of it too- since they've been installed they've offset about 565,103 miles worth of carbon emissions from the average American car. If you ever find yourself in Mueller it's also worth looking out for the old control tower- it's pretty much all that remains of Austin's original airport (which was used up until 1999). Although I did hear rumours that other clues hinting at the area's former life can be found like rusting departure signs, but I didn't stumble upon any relics unfortunately #UnitedStories @visittheusa @visitaustintx #TrueAustin

Ad i'm in the capital of texas this week, exploring a city famous for it's slogan "keep austin weird" - a phrase adopted to promote local brands (like flyrite) & to promote austin's quirky art & music scene. it's working too- the amount of independent shops & food trucks seem to outnumber the chains here which is great! one of the cabin crew on the plane over told me it's hard to find bad food here and she's absolutely right (especially when it comes to tacos. i've spent way too much time in torchy's while i've been here) #unitedstories @visitaustintx @visittheusa #trueaustin

The funny thing about making your hobby your career is that you realise you need to pick up a new hobby- although that's pretty tough because you're putting all your time and energy into making your new career work. Having worked for myself a couple of years now I've learnt to make time for new hobbies - hobbies like skiing, something I never did as a kid and really want to indulge in more. It's not exactly a cheap hobby though so if someone asked 'what would you do if you won £10k every month?' I'd probably still spend a lot of time on my photography but I'd be able to afford more time spent on the slopes too...and then maybe finally I could do a black run without sweating in fear all the way down! #ad #SetForLifeTNL #AmazingStartsHere @tnluk

Fun fact for you- The first speedcubing championship was held on this day in 1981. There were two winners who both clocked in the exact time of 38.0 seconds. The latest world record was set last year at 3.47 seconds (by Yusheng Du from China). None of this has anything to do with Qatar, where I took this photo, but the idea of someone doing a Rubik's Cube super fast inspired this little animation so today seemed a good day to share it! #EducationCity @qatarfoundation #RubiksCube #SpeedCubing

(competition now closed) it's world book day today so i'm giving away a couple of copies of my book "around the world in cut-outs". tag yourself & a friend who likes to travel in the comments and i'll choose the winners over the weekend. the book features my favourite images as well as some brand new ones i've never shared on instagram. there's also a whole section where i take you behind the scenes on ideas that totally failed and as a bonus there's an interactive section where you can create your own images in my style. happy reading and good luck if you enter! #worldbookday #giveaway
