A global movement founded nearly 50 years ago by the late eunice kennedy shriver with a focus on sports for the intellectually disabled, special olympics is now in 170 countries of the world. it was established in nigeria in 2001. organizers for the nigeria national games said the event will bring about 700 athletes from 25 states of the federation including the federal capital territory (fct). @sonigeria
is the largest nigerian program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities: it currently serves more than 21,000 persons with intellectual disabilities in 25 states in nigeria. special olympics nigeria offers training and competition opportunities in 9 olympic type sports – athletics, football, table tennis, basketball, badminton swimming, cycling, floor hockey and floorball with a plan to add more sports in the future.
