Over the weekend, I’ve been nipping on Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar and scratching my thoughts with a pencil on the margins. The shopping lists for Christmas dinner are ready; the date is set (seldom have it on the 25th to accommodate the big family) and the laptops have started humming carol songs. We haven’t zeroed on a pudding (any suggestions?) yet and might just have ice cream. And oh! two stars in front of the house this year, one lit and the other unlit.

How is your year winding up?
PS : I love having The Christmas song by Owl City on loop this time of the year.

What are you reading this month?
-
-
I am winding up my reading for the year, which is strange because usually I put my books aside in November itself. My last read, Flames by Robbie Arnott, was fantabulous. I might re read the St. Clare series by Enid Blyton for the pure joy of revisiting a childhood favourite without needing to review it. (Isn’t that so refreshing?) And I am watching Orange is the new black these days. I’d love something more cheery. Maybe Dumplin’ ? Do add in your holiday recommended TV too. It is that time of the year!

Life doesn’t get better than some old school brick game, does it? #whpsquares -

Tetris was a favourite game for us 90s kids and creating this video as adults remains one of my most cherished afternoons. I remember laughing hysterically as he tried to get the sugar cubes to stick, saying aloud each step written on a piece of paper so that I don’t make a mistake while ‘playing’ and of course us nibbling on the props aka jam biscuits with ginger tea afterwards. In a way, Instagram has become like an album for me. Each post has a story but also a backstory that goes into the making.

Have you ever taken help from friend/family for a picture? Tell us more; was it fun?

Dear 90’s kids,
You are gonna be okay.

Much love, xoxo

Happy weekend my loves. What’s one piece of advice you would give your own generation? (We already have enough of advices for older and younger generations).
-
-
Mine would be that no one has really figured life out. You aren’t failing. You are just struggling because you are an adult but many times you don’t feel like one. We will seize the day but its okay if today is not the day you do it. Don’t rush, don’t compare; just keep moving. You’ll be alright.
-
-
PS: I am super curious about you if you are in the older/younger generations. 😘

When I was an Instagram newbie, I felt lost. It was unfamiliar, filled with strangers and beautiful pictures. Soon enough, silhouettes became names and then faces. Accounts became real people, passionate, warm and above all, encouraging. All those questions - ‘is it stupid to post something that anyone can see? is it silly to comment on a photo you love?’ began to fade. This one’s for you my friend, new and old 🙂😍 .

How about your first months on IG? Share a story about the time when an online pal made you feel good.

If you are secretly relieved you live somewhere you don’t have to carve pumpkins (like me), here’s an easier way to boost your artistic ego. Oreo stars can never go wrong; you can eat them later and perhaps wish on the shooting ones too. Shall I get you a cuppa?
-
-
In other news, I watched Crimes of Grindelwald and loved it. I picked up a new book, The Fruit of the drunken tree, which is fabulous and might be a 5 star read.

Today in a nutshell - baked cakes, wrapped one in paper and dropped it off at cousins’ place, argued whether beef cutlets or fish cutlets should be on the menu this week. There is the hope of an early dinner after which I plan to comb through my bedside books and pick a new read to go with Hanif’s Red Birds, my current read.
-
-
Confession : Unlike in pics, I am more of a people watcher than a nose-in-a-book person when I am outdoors. What about you?
-
PS: I’ve received some amazing book mail. Can’t wait to show you. It is stupendous.

No matter what time of the year you visit, there will always be flowers and steaming cups, freshly brewed, to welcome you. Our seasons are just like us Indians; chaotic, colourful and blending into one another with no marked distinction.
-
-
Have you visited any part of India and what caught your eye here? Or is there some place you are planning to take a trip to?

Floating is such a witch!
~
I think I could easily get into Hogwarts with my new found skills, what say you? The Crimes of Grindelwald is nearly here and the trailer looks so much more amazing than Fantastic beasts. There has been a lot of backlash with Johnny Depp being in the cast and the Nagini twist. Rowling has never been great with representation and I’ve always cringed at her forced diversity inclusion (often going wrong) for brownie points. Depp’s actions in his personal life are no doubt unpardonable.
-
So when we watch a movie do we support the whole crew that worked on it or the double standards? Bit of a thin line there. What are your thoughts - Where do we draw the line between the art and the artist?

Books, nutella toasts and a cosy bed is the opposite of what this week is going to be.
~
Firstly, I’ve gotten a TV all to myself for a few days and to begin with, I was bewildered what to do with it (don’t own it, don’t watch it). Secondly, I made a huge (H-U-G-E) bowl of upma (something I very much hate) yesterday, expecting company which didn’t arrive. Thirdly, by the end of the day, I just want to hit the bed, not read, though I really want to finish some books on the night stand. But now I am getting the hang of things. So the rest of the week is going to be reheated upma for breakfast, dinner in front of the TV (so far I’ve rewatched Ella Enchanted, Harry Potter and Karate kid) and some audiobook time before bed.
PS: I am pecking on Sarah Perry’s gothic tale, Melmoth, on audio. It is a stunner. She spins magic with words.

Just another day in the IG life. What’s something you’ve done for Instagram?

Two days ago there was an article on Vulture condemning pictures as these and those who photograph them. I am on the other side here because I love seeing open books spread out far and wide in my feed. I am writing a post about all the hullabaloo that ensued. It should’ve been published two hours ago and linked with this post 🤦🏻‍♀️. But you know. Watch out for my Stories. I wouldn’t take another two hours, I promise 😂.
Thank you to those who pitched in your thoughts yesterday via DMs. ☺️👌🏼 Update: The post is LIVE. Link in bio.
